Your foot is like a fingerprint – it is unique for you. In fact, your left foot may be slightly different from your right. Foot orthotics customizes the ground you walk on to maximize comfort, prevent problems from occurring, and to minimize pain for people who already have problems.
WHAT ARE ORTHOTICS?
Orthotics are a specialty of medicine that refers to the design, manufacture and application of orthopedic devices that support or correct a function of the limb or torso. KURE Pain Management specializes in foot orthotics, which focuses on relieving foot pain, leg pain or discomfort by creating a foot orthotic (FO), known as a customized shoe insert.
Though foot orthotics are most often prescribed to people who are already suffering from foot and leg pain, they can be utilized by anyone to prevent problems from occurring. Some people experience pain in their feet, ankles or lower leg because of an imbalance or deformity. Foot pain may occur as a result of wearing improper shoes or due to occupations that require excessive standing or walking. In addition, people who are active in sports may experience foot pain or leg pain.
For overweight individuals, orthotics will counteract the stress that additional weight puts on the feet, ankles and legs. Elderly people and people with special needs, like diabetics, also benefit from orthotics, allowing them to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle without foot pain.
WHO BENEFITS FROM FOOT ORTHOTICS?
You might benefit from orthotics if you have foot pain or discomfort including:
- Heal Pain
- Shin Splints
- Knee Pain
- Leg Pain, particularly below the knee
- Ligament Injury
- Back Pain (Spine and Discs)
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Arch Pain
- Ankle Problems
In addition, foot orthotics are very helpful for preventing problems such as foot pain, back pain, leg pain or knee pain from occurring. People who have occupations where they are on their feet for an extended period, or need to lift heavy items, should consider a customized shoe insert to make sure that the foot is in its proper position and protected. Athletes, especially runners, can also benefit from foot orthotics.
FOOT ORTHOTIC THERAPY
Our therapy includes the evaluation, both foot orthotics (shoe inserts), fitting, and modifications if needed for the first 3 months.
Typically, only one visit is needed. We utilize the “slipper-cast” method, which entails a one hour, detailed bio-mechanical exam of the foot and lower extremity to determine exactly what is needed in the orthotic.
Our Physical Therapists are trained to create a mold which puts the foot in the proper position, to assure an improvement of the bio-mechanics of your foot and leg.
ARE FOOT ORTHOTICS COVERED BY INSURANCE?
In many cases, foot orthotics (shoe inserts) are covered by insurance. For those who need to self-pay, we offer very competitive rates, with a discount for additional pairs. As a courtesy, we will check with your insurance company to determine your benefits before scheduling your appointment.
